It looks as though This Morning viewers were less than impressed during Monday’s show. During the episode, Cat Deeley and Andi Peters spoke to Prime Minister Keir Starmer following his five few months in the role.
However, as the interview started to unwind, the ITV hosts were quick to question him on other matters. Some of the probes included asking about his favourite Christmas film and what his signature dish to cook at home is.
Viewers watching were quick to take to Twitter to share their thoughts, with many unimpressed. One person reeled: “The most pointless touchy-feely interview ever. Probing questions from Cat? Noooooo, I’m waiting for her to ask if he wraps his own pressies. Not exactly hard-hitting is it?”
Someone else wrote: “Yeah ask all the important questions… did you get a dog? What’s your favourite Christmas film? Really?” While another commented: “A lovely waffle-filled interview, complete with burning questions such as what he loves to cook and what his favourite Christmas film is.”
One viewer said: “Wow such a serious segment with the PM (not). Not bothered what he is doing for Christmas at least he’ll be warm with a full belly unlike many OAPs.”
“Sorry, the ending to that interview was a total embarrassment. Just utterly tone deaf given the feelings of many at the moment,” fumed another.
During their chat with the PM, Deeley was quick to highlight something he said while appearing on This Morning previously. She said: “You promised your kids a dog!”
Laughing awkwardly, he told the ITV star he was negotiating with them. He replied: “After a lot of negotiation, we got a Siberian kitten, white with blue eyes which is beautiful.”
He replied: “I’m worried that Larry will come off the better!” The conversation then took a turn to the festive season, as the duo wondered what the Prime Minister’s plans were for Christmas.
Starmer revealed his family can start getting into the festive spirit today (Monday, Nov 25) as it was his daughter’s birthday the day before. Peters asked: “What did you do?!”
He commented: “She insisted that we go to one of these escape rooms where you get locked in and there are clues. If you get the clues right you can get out. When she first said it I thought, ‘Oh that’s great I’ll have a nice cup of coffee and we’ll see you when you get out’. She said, ‘No, no, no, you’re in there with me!”
The pair laughed at his daughter managing to rope him into taking part in an escape room before they asked if he would take part in the Christmas cooking. Starmer confessed he does cook and enjoys it, finding it relaxing.
Speaking across to Phil Vickery, Starmer revealed he wanted to take his roast potatoes recipe from him to use in his own home. Vickery replied: “Ok, on the proviso that you come and cook with me, here.”
Starmer agreed, implying he’d be up for cooking in the This Morning kitchen before sharing his signature dish at home, a pasta bake. Will ITV viewers see the Prime Minister back on the show to cook alongside the resident chef?
